First Update In More Than a Year

Wed Apr 25, 2007, 3:38 PM
This is the first time I've updated my gallery in more than a year, and the advance in my technique is I believe fairly apparent. Imagine that if instead of reading about techniques, and observing the use and results of other peoples techniques, I had actually been practising them instead over the course of the year, just how much better do you think I would be?
The thing that astounds me, is just how quickly I managed to finish the painting. That was less than a six hour painting, and that would previously have been several nights worth of work rather than one and a bit.

It is almost the only serious amount of personal project art that I've done over the last year (sketches and doodles not withstanding) and whilst some of my lack of prolificness can be attributed to my increased workload making the prospect of going home to do something similar less appealing, and my fiction output increasing (no, it's not finished; far from it) the main part of it is that I've simply not been doing much art. Not unless you can count the stuff that I'm salaried to provide.

C'est la vie; I must work on my creative arts more this year, and to that end I will be doing a series of digital paintings (Corel Painter X is my friend, and will soon likely be an essential upgrade from my trusty painter 8, which I never got round to upgrading to IX despite it being an improvement in every aspect) set in the fictional world of Crimson Requiem (A post apocalyptic game of survival horror).

I am considering making some work available as prints, but I think I'll want my gallery to be considerably less sparse than it currently is for that. I'd feel like such an idiot if I only have a couple of pieces that are suitable as prints available, so I'll have to carefully consider what works to dust off and revitalise.

  • Favourite photographer: Sal Azar (aka as i0 here on Deviant Art)
